Immigration

What if tomorrow there are 30 million people taking to the streets and demanding amnesty for all 12 million illegal immigrants living in the United States? Would that change your mind on the issue? If it does, not only are you a coward and deserve to have your citizenship revoked, but you don’t give a damn for the Constitution or the laws of this nation. If you’re like me then you must be wondering why no President since Teddy Roosevelt has done something about illegal immigration? Why is it that only the House wants to do something about this issue? Yes it’s improbable to deport 12 million illegal immigrants but it’s far better than amnesty. If it sounds discriminating, you’re right! Laws were meant to be discriminating, discriminating against those who break them. Those that escape repressive countries deserve amnesty, but those who are escaping bad economic conditions must wait in line.

Article IV, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution reads, “The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion…”

Health Care Fix?

“A Massachusetts plan that blends the Democratic goal of universal health care with the Republican philosophy of personal responsibility could be a model for politicians nationwide - and a presidential launching pad for its chief sponsor, GOP Gov. Mitt Romney” (Associated Press, courtesy of Forbes).

This subject is near and dear to me because I have to pay more for health insurance than the average American. Personal responsibility is indeed a Republican philosophy but so is not interfering in people’s lives. I praise Gov. Romney for his support of States’ rights, accountability, and a good judiciary, but I can’t support him in his latest endeavor.

There are a lot of problems with this plan. It’s basically back door socialism. Government should encourage the free market by incentives, and not by forcing citizens to participate. When a health care plan looks good; people will buy it. This sets an example that business should comply with demands. When government forces citizens to invest in health care, they must invest; however, business will seldom comply with demands. The latter form of government is a sham.

Romney will run for President. I’ve lost confidence in him. I may end up voting for Newt Gingrich who will probably not win. Where the hell is a James Madison when we need one?
